Priority Areas for National Drug Control Programmes.

Policy development
(a) Revise the National Drug Control Master Plan 2002- 2006 and write the new Master Plan/Road Map for the period 2007 – 2011;
(b) Finalise the legislation/regulations for money laundering and judicial processes (evidence and exhibit for the courts)
(c) Review National Alcohol Strategy
Demand reduction programmes.
(a) Series of sessions on drug and alcohol abuse with a variety of children, young people and parents.
(b) Parenting classes in all districts, with the collaboration of key agencies.
(c) Media campaign in collaboration with Care, especially for television spots and mini-documentaries. Key issues: the myths about cannabis being harmless and a medicinal plant, and the impact of heroin addiction on the society.
(d) Pursue with the Drug Free Schools Programme initiated at Beau Vallon Secondary School and extended to Grand’ Anse Praslin Secondary School.
(e) Prison Drug Education Programme.
Supply reduction programmes
(a) Capacity-building at the Anti-Drug and Marine Squad (Adams), in the following areas: investigation, chain of evidence and procedures, intelligence gathering and infiltration work.
(b) Technical assistance with other programmes.
Care and treatment programmes.
(a) Establish a clear and comprehensive rehabilitation protocol for the treatment of drug-dependent persons
(b) Provide technical support to the rehabilitation centre staff.
Research and development
(a) study link between HIV/AIDS and drugs in Seychelles, focusing on IDU, where appropriate
(b) focus on gender issues in drug addictions.
International cooperation
(a) establish links with the following countries – Madagascar, South Africa, Mauritius, Kenya, India and Pakistan – to deal with the issue of drug trafficking routes, sharing of intelligence, development of bilateral or regional cooperation, rehabilitation services, etc.
